Universal Remotes

No, not those dinky little remotes you get from Wal-Mart or something, I’m talkin about a real man’s remote, like the one pictures to the left. Universal remotes are far from the old style type in your device code, these remotes are internet connected and are able to do just about anything. This in in particular has so many features. You can hook it into your computer via the USB port and configure everything about it, right down to the icons to represent your devices. Many universal remotes aren’t just limited to controlling your TV, DVD player, etc, but they can also be set up to control compatible lighting systems, ceiling fans, and more. So if you have a certain atmosphere you like to watch movies in, you can set up the remote to turn on the tv, turn on the Blu-ray player, turn on your surround receiver, change the input to Blu-ray, dim the lights, turn down the fan, and open the Blu-ray player’s tray so all you have to do is put the disc in and go. Pretty sweet, huh? Now if only we could set it up to control the wife. That would be perfect.

Netflix

For you guys that like movies and TV out there, Netflix is an absolute must have! It’s rather inexpensive ($9 per month is their cheapest unlimited plan) and the delivery time is rather fast. If I were to return a movie in the mail on a Wednesday, most of the time I’ll have a new one on Friday. It’s that way in most of the country too from what I understand. And if you don’t get a movie in time, they have a LARGE library of titles that you can stream instantly on your computer or compatible set top device (select DVD/Blu-ray players, TVs, and all Xbox 360s, PS3s, and Wii game systems). Heck, I use the streaming service more than the actual disc one! There’s just so much on there. I also like that the streaming service has a lot of stuff I wouldn’t watch normally, so it’s exposing me to new things. So yeah, Netflix is probably the most amazing thing ever. Check it out.
